| Applied Biosciences expands capillary electrophoresis offerings | Posted on 27/05/2009 in Scientific Applied Biosciences has announced the expansion of its capillary electrophoresis products.
The company introduced two new genetic analysers, including the 3500 and 3500 Dx Series.
Designed for research purposes, the 3500 Series is to be launched globally, allowing researchers to run over 1,000 genotyping samples a day.
Meanwhile, the 3500 Dx Series - designed for clinical use - will initially be made available in specific European Union countries. This product analyses DNA and RNA to detect changes in genes that may lead to disease.
Commenting on the new analysers, Dr Emiliano Giardina, professor of medical genetics at the University of Rome, said: "The 3500 Series of sequencers will support a wide variety of genetic research in Europe.
"This technology may also ease the analysis and create standardisation for genetics laboratories."
Earlier this year, Applied Biosystems launched a real-time PCR device, designed to measure residual DNA impurities in host cells.
According to the company, the product will assist biopharmaceutical companies in developing drugs to treat many conditions, including cancer and cardiovascular disease.
