| DoH congratulates CSO Research Fellowship winners | Posted on 27/05/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news The Department of Health's (DoH) chief scientific officer (CSO) Professor Sue Hill has congratulated the winners of the new CSO Research Fellowship.
Launched in September 2008 to support research and development in the NHS, the competition has been funded by the government body.
Ten investigators across the country have been successful in their applications and awarded a total of over one million pounds to finance projects, which will lead to improving patient care.
Developing the way people are treated for diabetes, cancer and respiratory disease are some of the areas the programmes will focus on.
A number of new diagnoses techniques will also be expanded.
Professor Hill noted the competition was very strong, adding she looks forward to seeing the progress and outcome of the winners' projects.
She commented: "There were many high quality applications from healthcare scientists working across a wide range of disciplines, illustrating the wealth of opportunities within the NHS for translational research."
Earlier this month, the DoH published the report Indicators for Quality Improvement, which outlines guidelines on how to enhance the patient experience.Other news stories from 27/05/2009
