Posted on 19/05/2009 in Veterinary Supplier News Merial's Dr Joe Dedrickson has recommended the use of a cow parasite treatment, Ivomec.
The Cattle Network discussed the subject recently and included quotes from the expert, who cited university research showing that cow herd parasite control can have the biggest effect when trying to break even.
Ivomec, however, can provide effective treatment for internal and external parasites.
Using this product in spring can help kill existing parasites and those the cow can pick up.
"[Cows] can also contaminate the pasture and increase the worm burden of their own calves. Treatment with an endectocide helps reduce the overall parasite load on the pastures, which protects both cows and calves," Dr Dedrickson explained.
Ivomec is available in three variants - Classic Injection for Cattle and Sheep, Classic Pour-On for Cattle and Super Injection for Cattle.
Some of the parasites it helps to treat and control include lungworms, eyeworms, mites, warbles, lice and gastro-intestinal roundworms.
