The company focuses on this area to address the unmet medical need for innovative treatment options, explained head of global development Dr Kemal Malik.
Currently, Bayer Schering Pharma is investigating its oral agent riociguat (BAY 63-2521) in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), as well as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
The results - which were discussed at the American Thoracic Society (ATS) international conference - have so far shown it can improve the exercise capacity from baseline values in patients with the conditions.
Dr Malik commented: "The data presented at the ATS meeting serves to further reinforce our expectations for riociguat in patients with CTEPH and PAH."
Earlier this month, Bayer Schering Pharma launched its new oral contraceptive Qlaira in several European countries, including Germany.
The drug is the first of its kind to deliver estradiol ? which is identical to the oestrogen produced by the ovaries.Other news stories from 19/05/2009
