Even if individuals are not ready to report crimes made against them, the government recognises they may feel more comfortable talking to medical and wellbeing professionals about their fear of attacks.
Health secretary Alan Johnson explained almost one in three females will experience domestic violence at some point of their lives, while nearly one in four will go through a form of sexual assault.
"Many women who have suffered violence and abuse turn to GPs and A&E for support and treatment - the taskforce will help us to ensure that all NHS staff are trained to care for women and girls and help prevent further abuse," he remarked.
The government has also promised to donate additional funding to the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline ? doubling the support to one million pounds.
Women's Aid and Refuge run the advice service to assist females experiencing domestic violence. It is also available for others to call on a victim's behalf.Other news stories from 14/05/2009
