Bausch & Lomb (B&L) has expressed its delight at a new designation being announced for the Akreos lens.
The Akreos Advanced Optics Aspheric intraocular lens has been recognised for its spherical aberration-reducing properties and it was granted New Technology Intraocular Lens (NTIOL) status by the Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
To reach this goal, the lens demonstrated equal to or greater than the specific clinical benefit provided by the NTIOL-set lens.
Vice-president of America's Surgical Sales for B&L Brendan Sheil said the company was "pleased" that the lens had been selected.
"This achievement, along with our previous NTIOL designation for aberration-free optics on our silicone portfolio, further establishes B&L's optics capability and highlights our commitment to quality outcomes for our customers and their patients," added Tim Frinzi, vice-president of worldwide surgical commercial operations.
Meanwhile, the eye health company made another announcement this week, stating that Peter Valenti III will take the role of vice-president and global president of vision care from July 1st 2009.
