Posted on 07/05/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Eli Lilly has conducted a study which reveals that the drug tadalafil can have a beneficial effect on men who suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED).
The double-blind, placebo-controlled study required 342 male subjects to take a 5 mg dose of tadalafil daily for a period of 12 weeks and report on their sex lives by answering several scientific questionnaires which assessed changes in erectile function.
Eli Lilly said that the results of the study - which will be published in the May edition of the peer-reviewed Journal of Sexual Medicine - revealed that the drug had not only helped ED sufferers but had also led to improvements in couples' sexual quality of life.
Dr Eusebio Rubio-Aurioles, lead investigator, said: "In addition, this study showed that a daily dose of tadalafil is effective and generally well tolerated in the treatment of erectile dysfunction."
Founded in 1876 by Eli Lilly, the company that bears his name is now the tenth largest pharmaceutical manufacturer in the world.
