PerkinElmer announces new detection system

5th May 2009

PerkinElmer has announced the launch of a new technology that it believes is effective in the detection of chromosomal abnormalities.

The BACs on Beads system is designed to provide researchers with a fast, effective and affordable way in which to identify both structural and numeric anomalies in a singular analysis.

Dr Susan J Gross, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, revealed the BACs on Beads technology had been effective in her own studies with amniotic fluid.

Her findings were presented at the American College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology’s annual conference which took place recently and she was able to confirm the system may provide a solution for assay development in a range of situations.

"The technology represents a tremendous opportunity to increase access to cost-effective molecular karyotyping," Dr Gross added.

It was also announced this week that PerkinElmer would present at the Robert W Baird 2009 Growth Stock Conference later this month.
