Boehringer Ingelheim discusses PD treatment
Boehringer Ingelheim has looked at how it is important to provide patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) the individual treatment they need.
The company has been conducting clinical trials of Mirapexin ? also known as Sifrol (pramipexole) ? to test the efficacy, safety and tolerability of it.
In patients with early forms of the condition, the prolonged release formulation of the medication was found to be superior compared to the placebo after 18 weeks.
Dr Werner Poewe from the University Hospital Innsbruck, Austria commented on the findings.
He explained every patient with PD will have a different range of requirements or symptoms.
Medications should be able to aid each individual while also giving “reassurance to physicians that new formulations are as good as their current formulations when it comes to efficacy, safety and tolerability”, Dr Poewe commented.
This week, Boehringer Ingelheim also released data that showed the symptoms in restless leg syndrome patients did not significantly change after they received Miapexin/ Sifrol (pramipexole).
Headquartered in Germany, the company operated in 47 countries and employs 41,300 staff.
