Posted on 27/04/2009 in Medical Company Product News Ethicon Endo-Surgery's suite of devices for natural orifice surgery will be featured at an upcoming event.
Called Notes Toolbox, the investigational products include an articulating hook knife, tissue apposition system, flexible bipolar hemostasis forceps and steerable flex trocar with rotary access needle.
At the 2009 Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Annual Meeting, the set will be discussed during 15 presentations.
Dr Daniel J Scott, from the University of Texas South-Western Medical School, said the products highlighted a number of restrictions that some off-the-shelf endoscopic instruments have.
"These new devices overcome some of the force limitations typical of flexible devices and may provide the operating clinician capabilities that are more in line with laparoscopy," he commented.
Over the next few months, the Food and Drug Administration will evaluate the Notes Toolbox.
Ethicon is a Johnson & Johnson company and earlier this month, the latter released its financial results for the first quarter of 2009.
Chairman and chief executive officer of the company William C Weldon asserted the firm had delivered strong figures, despite the challenging economy.Other news stories from 27/04/2009
