Posted on 20/04/2009 in Veterinary Supplier News Dechra has announced the results of a competition that shows its remedy to aid cats with hyperthyroidism can work effectively over a long period of time.
There are many feline owners who are unaware about the illness, remarked Elli John from Endell Veterinary Group.
She made this comment after she won Dechra's Felimazole longest-treated cat competition by entering her patient, a short-haired female called Sasha, into the contest.
Despite eating properly, the feline had been losing weight and she was one of the first pets to be given Felimazole after her owners admitted her to the veterinary surgery.
The owners commented: "Soon after the treatment commenced, Sasha had a new lease of life - her fur grew back and [her] coat once again became shiny and healthy."
Dr John remarked the surgery sees around 75 new cases of the illness every year, adding there may be many more animals out there that are undiagnosed.
The vet concluded there are a number of long-term hyperthyroid cats who have been able to live normal lives due to the treatment.
Dechra is located in Shrewsbury, England and in Uldum, Denmark.Other news stories from 20/04/2009
