Takeda joins United Nations Global Compact

15th April 2009

Takeda has asserted it is “proud” to take part in the United Nations Global Compact (GC).

It made this comment after announcing it would become involved with the initiative, which aims to help focus businesses on corporate social responsibility.

According to the firm, it conducts a variety of activities focussing on relationships with suppliers, employees, the environment and society.

“Takeda places great importance on a high standard of ethics and commitment to its core business of creating novel pharmaceuticals for patients,” it stated.

Being a “good citizen”, while working in a manner that acknowledges human rights and the environment are also important to the company’s conduct, the company concluded.

Last week, Takeda’s research into the discovery of a small molecular inhibitor of the NEDD8-Activating Enzyme ? the MLN4924 ? was published in the journal Nature.

The work shows that it has the potential to treat a number of cancers in in-vivo animal models and in-vitro cell assays, explained the lead author of the study Dr Teresa A Soucy.
