Ethicon Pop product now available
Ethicon’s Women’s Health and Urology department has announced that a device intended for use in surgery to treat pelvic organ prolapse (Pop) is now available.
Around 40 per cent of women aged 40 to 79 are affected by the condition which causes internal body parts in this area to fall out of place due to weakened muscles.
Now the Gynecare Prolift+M Pelvic Floor Repair System can be adopted by clinicians and surgeons as a mechanical support or a bridge material for defective fascia.
For increase biocompatibility and better comfort for the patient, the product includes a partially absorbable mesh, which is implanted using a technique that involves making a small incision in the vaginal wall.
Salil Khandwala, clinical associate professor at Wayne State University, noted that thousands of women will be able to benefit from the product.
He commented: “Surgeons now have an option that is specifically designed ? to work with the body’s natural healing process while correcting the prolapse.”
Ethicon Women’s Health and Urology is a division of Ethicon, which is part of the Johnson & Johnson company.
