Bayer Schering Pharma establish a new R&D centre
Bayer Schering Pharma has announced it is to establish a new research and development (R&D) centre.
The new facility which will cost 100 million euros (89.4 million pounds) – will be located in Beijing, China, with an aim to strengthen the company’s "global R&D capabilities".
It will also "lead drug development" in China and across Asia, according to Kemal Malik, head of global development, chief medical officer and member of the board of management of Bayer Schering Pharma.
"Our aim is to systematically include Asian patients earlier in global drug development, breaking the tradition of ‘US and EU first’," he stated.
Another board member, Andreas Busch, added there is "tremendous potential" for innovation in China – where Bayer is the top healthcare company, according to IMS Health, cited in a statement from the firm.
