Bayer HealthCare donates food items
Bayer HealthCare has donated hundreds of food items to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), in response to an urgent call from Governer Jon Corzine.
The scheme has seen volunteers in the Wayne and Morristown campuses of the organisation helping to load a van with bags donated by the company’s workers.
Kathleen DiChiara, president and chief executive of CFBNJ, said the bank is very grateful to Bayer and its employees.
She continued: “This demonstrates their commitment to the people in New Jersey who are in need today.”
“We also want to applaud the work of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey, which launched the initiative to raise money for emergency food assistance and encouraged healthcare companies to donate directly to food banks,” Ms DiChiara added.
The news comes as the CFBNJ experienced an approximate 30 per cent increase in demand, resulting in supply shortages and hardship for a number of the state’s charities.
Based in Leverkusen, Germany, Bayer employs 106,000 people worldwide.
Established in 1871, the company has a yearly turnover of more than 32 billion euros (21.48 billion pounds) across its three main sectors – healthcare, material science and crop science.
