| Mettler Toledo FreeWeigh software employed by Zambon | Posted on 01/09/2008 in Scientific Mettler Toledos' FreeWeigh quality control software system is being used by pharmaceutical firm Zambon to ensure its products include exact levels of active ingredients and additives.
The firm has installed FreeWeigh technology in 12 areas to aid its dosage control - an essential role in pharmaceutical manufacturing, as giving patients either under or overfilled treatments can have serious health implications.
At each of the FreeWeigh stations, liquid and solid drug samples are weighed at regular intervals during the production process. All the information is transferred and stored in the FreeWeight.net system, which then calculates mean values, standard deviations and tolerance ranges.
Each connected station can access this data online, as can six "master stations", allowing the manufacturer to make immediate adjustments if a product starts to drift out f its tolerance zone, Mettler Toledo said.
FreeWeigh also provides an "audit trail" that logs all alterations made to a produce and all of its recorded data is electronically signed, so only authorised personnel can access it, the firm added.
Mettler Toledo has its roots in a precision mechanics firm founded in 1945 by Swiss engineer Dr Erhard Mettler.
