Otsuka Pharmaceutical has announced a capital investment to acquire Interpharma Praha.
The firm has purchased all outstanding stock in the Czech company following an agreement previously signed by Otsuka and Interpharma West, the parent of Interpharma Praha,
Interpharma Praha is a business which is focused on active pharmaceutical ingredients, nutraceutical products originating from natural sources and research, development and manufacturing of X-ray contrast media.
It was founded in 1932 as a private business before being nationalised in 1946 and re-privatised in 1992.
It has a portfolio of targeted compounds concentrating on small molecule technologies, radiographic contrast media and oncology, while being capable of early-stage research, scale-up process development and commercial production in radiographic contrast media.
"Interpharma Praha research experience with functional ingredients which are applicable to nutraceutical products as well as pharmaceutical products will further strengthen the research and development and product development capability of Otsuka," the company said.
It added the acquisition of Interpharma Praha will be of tremendous advantage to Otsuka, with the company play a key role in its own global research initiatives and the diversification of its global business expansion.
Last month, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Group announced the establishment of Otsuka Holdings, a body responsible for the strategic management functions of the company.
