| Bayer Schering Pharma backs family planning initiative | Posted on 20/08/2008 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Bayer Schering Pharma has announced plans to support family planning initiatives in developing countries worldwide.
Under the terms of its deal with the US Agency for International Development, the country will provide up to 110 million cycles of orally-administered contraceptives every year for family-planning programmes.
The firm has signed a contract with John Snow which will allow over eight million women every year to have access to reliable hormonal contraception.
It will provide these women with Microgynon 30, ED Fe and Microlut, which will be distributed via public and social marketing programmes in Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Dr Ulrich Koestlin, member of the board of management of Bayer Shcering Pharma, said: "As the market leader in hormonal contraceptive products, Bayer Schering Pharma is especially committed to enabling people to carry out conscious family planning."
He added the right to have a baby by choice - not chance - is vital to families across the globe, with the company looking to enhance global access to medicine.
