| Schering-Plough reports availability of Asmanex Twisthaler | Posted on 20/08/2008 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Schering-Plough has announced the availability of its Asmanex Twisthaler 110mcg (mometasone furoate inhalation powder).
The compound is indicated as a maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventative therapy in patients aged over four.
Schering-Plough claims the treatment offers doctors a new option to help the management of asthma in children as they start going back to school.
Research shows that asthma attacks increase in these months, with a spike in emergency room and hospitalisation rates occurring in September, while asthma is the most common chronic condition among children.
Kevin R Murphy, board certified paediatric pulmonologist and director of allergy, asthma and pulmonary research at Boys Town National Research Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, said: "In my practice, I see an increase in paediatric asthma patients this time of year as children return to school and become exposed to a new environment with new allergens or irritants that may aggravate their symptoms."
He added it is vital for parents and doctors to be aware of the safe and effective treatment options available to treat and prevent symptoms.
In February 2008, the Asmanex Twisthaler was approved for use in children aged four to 11 by the US Food and Drug Administration.Other news stories from 20/08/2008
