| Cardinal Health launches medication and medical supply system | Posted on 10/06/2008 in Medical Company Product News Cardinal Health has announced the launch of a new combined medication and medical supply management system.
The Pyxis DuoStation system facilitates the dispensing of medications and medical supplies by clinicians from a single dispensing machine in a bid to introduce cost savings opportunities and increased workflow efficiency.
Built on the foundation of the Pyxis MedStation and SupplySation systems, the new DuoSystem employs unique identifiers for nurses, such as ID numbers and fingerprints, to facilitate their log-on to the system.
The system also records the medications and supplies used by patients and transfers the data collected to the billing system of the hospital, while also potentially being used to generate reports to optimise medication, supply utilisation and cost management.
"The Pyxis DuoStation system provides a scalable approach for non-automated hospitals, while offering larger acute care facilities a single point of access for medication and supply dispensing," Cardinal Health said.
It added that the flexibility of the system supports procedural areas in acute care facilities, outpatient clinics, community hospitals, surgical centres and speciality care, while upgrades include wireless connectivity and the ability to read two-dimensional barcodes.
In April 2007, Cardinal Health announced a partnership with the Premier healthcare alliance standardise the vocabulary used in online catalogues of medical products.Other news stories from 10/06/2008
