Less serious pharmacy complaints procedure announced

5 June 2008 00:00 in Pharmacy / Pharmacist News

Less serious complaints against pharmacy technicians will be dealt with via the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB)'s inspectorate rather than being referred to its investigating committee.

Jackie Giltrow, head of regulatory transition at the society, explains that the criteria aim to make the handling process more "effective" and "efficient", adding that it should ensure that the appropriate level of action is taken in each individual case.

She notes that each case is due to be judged on the seriousness of allegations, with the formal disciplinary machine being brought into play in serious cases.

"The threshold criteria will help ensure that the operation of the society's regulatory framework reflects modern regulatory practice and continues to ensure patient safety and public confidence in the pharmacy profession," she adds.

In other news from the RPSGB, it recently announced that Steve Churton was elected as its new president and Martin Astbury re-elected as vice-president.
