| Cardinal Health completes infection prevention acquisition | Posted on 13/05/2008 in Medical Company Restructures Cardinal Health has announced that it has completed the purchase of the assets of Enturia, a privately-held manufacturer of infection prevention products.
Enturia sells its products under the ChloraPrep brand name and these items are used in hospitals and surgery centres for the skin preparation of patients prior to operations to prevent the infection of the bloodstream and surgical sites.
Cardinal Health notes that these are two of the most common types of healthcare associated infections contracted by surgery patients.
ChloraPrep products deliver a concentration of chlorhexidine gluconate that penetrates the first five skin layers to reduce the microorganisms that cause infections.
They use a proprietary disposable applicator to eliminate direct hand-to-patient contact and thus help prevent cross contamination in hospitals.
"The ChloraPrep product line expands the company's offerings that help providers lower infection rates," the company said.
"Cardinal Health's infection prevention portfolio ranges from MedMined electronic infection surveillance services to medical products and surgical apparel."
It adds that it will speed up sales of the products to hospitals and alternate-care customers through its sales networks.
Earlier this month, Cardinal Health confirmed that its purchase of Enturia was for a total consideration of $490 million (250 million pounds).Other news stories from 13/05/2008
