| American Medical Systems announce presidential appointment | Posted on 01/05/2008 in Medical Company Restructures Anthony P Bihl has been appointed as the chief executive and president of American Medical Systems (AMS), the company has announced.
The former Siemens Medical solutions diagnostics chief executive, Mr Bihl has more than 25 years experience in leadership roles within the medical equipment and diagnostics sectors.
He replaces Ross Longhini, who had been interim chief executive since January and remains executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Lead independent director A Jay Graf said the board was "very pleased" Mr Bihl had accepted the role and felt "confident that his leadership strength and broad experience will drive American Medical Systems through the next phase of growth".
Mr Bihl is a former president of the diagnostics division of Bayer Healthcare and was executive vice president of Bayer Healthcare LLC.
In addition he has worked at DuPont and Sterling Diagnostic Imaging.
Minnesota-based AMS, founded in 1972, specialises in devices to cure erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, incontinence, menorrhagia, prolapse and other pelvic disorders.
