Bayer makes haemophilia donation

18th April 2008

Germany-based company Bayer has made substantial financial and pharmaceutical donations to the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) to mark World Haemophilia Day (April 17th).

In addition to 250,000 euros (199,212 pounds) Bayer gave more than 950,000 units of Kogenate FS (antihemophilic factor) to the cause. This takes the company’s financial contribution to the fund to more than one million euros over the past four years.

Bayer spokesperson Dr Gunnar Riemann said: “We are extremely pleased to support WFH and to celebrate the incredible strides made in haemophilia care in the past two decades.”

Donations to the WFH have helped to support its treatment, care and education initiatives including the Global Alliance for Progress scheme, which increases the diagnosis and treatment of haemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

In addition, Bayer is the sole sponsor of the WFH’s Nursing Fellowship Programme.

The WFH recently announced that Claudia Black has been appointed as chief executive after serving as the interim chief executive since September.
