Invitrogen teams with Genisphere to Epigenetic research

Posted on 03/04/2008 in Scientific

Invitrogen has signed up to become the exclusive provider of fluorescent microRNA microarray labelling kits using Genisphere's 3DNA dendrimer signal amplification technology.

Genisphere's Frost and Sullivan Award-winning 3DNA dendrimer technology is based upon highly branched DNA structures serving as scaffolds for multitudes of fluorescent dyes – making it a fast and reproducible system for directly labelling microRNAs.

According to Invitrogen, the new system will allow scientists to start with a total RNA sample as little as 250 nanograms, eliminating the need to purify the microRNA sample prior to labelling – shortening the total time it takes for experiments to be completed.

Speaking of the agreement, Dr Robert Getts, research and development director at Genisphere, said: "When working with small nucleic acids, sensitivity is often limited. Our development of a simple process to efficiently couple microRNAs directly to 3DNA dendrimers is a significant improvement over past methods.

"Combining Genisphere's unique labelling approach with Invitrogen's microRNA array content will provide researchers with a powerful solution in their investigation of the biology of microRNAs."

Invitrogen provides products and services that support academic and government research institutions and pharmaceutical and biotech companies worldwide.

The company employs some 4,700 scientists and other professionals.
