| Galderma announces new anaesthetic cream for cosmetic procedures | Posted on 27/03/2008 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Galderma has announced the availability of a new topical anaesthetic Pliaglis (lidocaine and tetracaine) Cream for those undertaking cosmetic procedures.
With a concentration of each drug at seven per cent, the cream has the highest concentration of active ingredients approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for this indication.
The cream is also the first available topical anaesthetic that is applied as a cream and dries to form an easily-removable peel, not requiring the skin to be wrapped in plastic.
Galderma reports that lidocaine offers rapid onset of numbing, while tetracaine can provide a lasting effect, with the cream indicated as a topical local analgesia for superficial dermatological procedures.
Dr Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas, a dermatologic and laser surgeon in Manhattan, said: "Sometimes the anaesthetic we use can be just as important as the procedure in terms of patient satisfaction."
She added that, with its combination of two proven topical anaesthetics, Pliaglis Cream offers genuine advance in patient comfort.
Earlier this month, Galderma Pharma announced an agreement with Zars Pharma to acquire exclusive rights for Pliaglis in all markets outside the US and Canada, extending an agreement signed last year for promotion and distribution of the drug within those territories.
