Abcam’s business is booming

12th March 2008

Abcam has reported a 19 per cent increase in its pre-tax profits for the first half of the year.

The internet antibody retailer said that sales in the six months leading to December 2007 were up by 38.3 per cent to £15.3 million.

During this period Abcam increased its product range by 44 per cent and now markets some 40,800 antibodies.

Jonathan Miller, chief executive officer of the Cambridge-based company, told Business Weekly: "This has been an important half year for Abcam."

He added that the growth "clearly demonstrates the potential of the business and how we are continuing our commitment to profitable growth and the delivery of healthy returns for our shareholders".

Founded in 1998 as a spin out company from Cambridge University, Abcam manufactures its own antibodies and sources them from other institutes in order to provide a comprehensive online catalogue.
