Shire vice-president wins businesswoman award

The senior vice-president of leadership development at Shire Pharmaceuticals has been named the 2008 'Woman of the Year' by the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA).
Charlotte Sibley was recognised by the association for her success in the healthcare industry, strong leadership capabilities, confident mentoring skills and a commitment to giving back to women in the industry.
Matthew Emmens, chief executive officer at Shire, expressed the company's delight for Ms Sibley, confirming that her leadership talent and business acumen had "proved invaluable to Shire on many levels".
"In her role guiding our leadership development initiative, Charlotte's expertise will position us well as we continue nurturing our internal talent, and recruiting more exceptional professionals who provide valuable insight and support to achieving our strategic business goals," he stated.
She joined Shire in 2005, previously serving as senior vice-president of global business research and intelligence, where she focused on market research, competitive intelligence and new product commercial assessment.
Ms Sibley praised the HBA for developing talent and encouraging professional women to serve as role models for others.
Also this week, Shire has announced that it is to continue the expansion of its human genetic therapies unit with a $394 million (200 million pound) investment.
