| Boston Scientific initiates stent comparison | Posted on 14/02/2008 in Medical Company Product News Boston Scientific has announced the launch of its Proency European registry which is to assess different Olimus-eluting coronary stents. The registry is to collect clinical outcome data for the company's Promus everolimus-eluting stent and compare it with data from Johnson & Johnson's Cypher sirolimus-eluting stent and Medtronic's Endeavor zotarolimus-eluting stent. Promus stent is part of the Xience coronary stent system range manufactured by Abbott and distributed by Boston Scientific. Professor Christian Hamm, principal investigator at the Kerckhoff Heart Center in Bad Nauheim, Germany, expressed his excitement to be enrolling the first patient for the new registry. "We have previously seen efficacy data from clinical trials with the Promus, Cypher and Endeavor stents but data from this registry will allow us, for the first time, to comparatively assess the differences between everolimus, sirolimus and zotarolimus-eluting stents in patients with simple and complex lesions," he said. Over 2,500 patients with simple and complex lesions will be enrolled across multiple sites in several European countries. The registry's primary endpoint is the rate of major cardiac events (cardiac death, myocardial infarction and target vessel revascularization) at 12 months. Earlier this month, Boston Scientific released fourth-quarter and year-end results, highlighting "record sales" for 2007.Other news stories from 14/02/2008
