Applied Biosystems appoints new president and chief operating officer

Applera has named Mark Stevenson as president and chief operating officer of its Applied Biosystems Group and senior vice president of the corporation.

Tony White, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Applera, said that this move "completes the Applied Biosystems management transition that began more than a year ago".

Mr White added that Mr Stevenson is a "strong leader and strategic thinker with tremendous knowledge of Applied Biosystems and the life science tools industry".

Mr Stevenson said: "Applied Biosystems has an excellent reputation of providing our customers with innovative tools, a strong history of growth and profitability, and a talented and hardworking group of employees."

He added that it was an "exciting time" for Applied Biosystems as the company was pursuing multiple growth vectors across a number of technologies, applications and improvements to the operational business.

Applied Biosystems forms one part of the Applera group.

It develops and markets instrument-based systems, consumables, software and services to the life science industry.
