| Takeda wins award for Hematide development agreement | Posted on 22/10/2007 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Takeda and Affymax have been recognised with the 2007 Deal of Distinction award for their global development and marketing agreement for Hematide as a treatment for anaemia.
Awarded by the Licensing Executives Society of the US and Canada, the accolade acknowledges the use of creative and novel solutions for business issues and was given to five deals during 2007.
Under the terms of the agreement, Takeda has been given an exclusive, royalty-bearing license for the development and marketing of the drug outside the US.
Hematide is an innovative synthetic pegylated peptidic compound that acts as an erythropoiesis stimulating agent through its activation of the erythropoietin receptor.
It is currently being developed as a treatment of anaemia in chronic renal failure patients and those receiving chemotherapy for cancer.
Yasuchika Hasegawa, president of Takeda Pharmaceutical, said: "We are very pleased that Takeda's partnership with Affymax for Hematide is being recognised by esteemed licensing professionals.
"The collaboration on this potential new entrant to the worldwide anaemia market represents an important component of our global growth strategy."
He added that the company anticipated further progress in the clinical development of the compound.
