Alcon Laboratories has announced that it intends to expand its Switzerland operations, with Fribourg becoming the central location for its administrative operations worldwide.
As a result of the expansion, a number of divisions - including finance, information technologies and logistics - would relocate to Fribourg from their current base in Huenenberg.
"With our Swiss domicile and long history of centrally managing global activities in Switzerland, we are pleased to have the opportunity to maintain our centralised service operations in the country and also to add a significant number of high-quality jobs in Fribourg and Geneva," said Cary Rayment, Alcon's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Geneva will be the location of the company's new European area and marketing management centre, Alcon has announced, and as a result of its continued expansion in Switzerland, the firm will receive tax benefits for a five-year period beginning on January 1st 2008.
Alcon expects to invest the 2008 tax benefit back into the company's expansion and development in Switzerland.
According to the firm's website, Alcon was founded in 1945 and has offices in 75 countries worldwide.
