Oxoid extends range of yeast identification products

10th September 2007

Oxoid has announced the expansion of its range of products for the recognition and culturing of yeast with the introduction of the Remel RapID Yeast Plus identification panel.

The company states that the new product is able to make available biochemical identification of medically-important yeasts and yeast-like organisms in around four hours.

Both time and materials can be saved due to the panel not being dependent on the growth of such organisms – due to its ability to detect specific constitutive enzymes – resulting in the product being able to be incubated aerobically without requiring oil overlay.

Results are easy to be read through user-friendly electronic RapID compendium software which ensures a high level of reliability and accuracy in readings.

Clinical applications manager for Oxoid Julie Elston commented: "The products available from Oxoid for the identification of yeasts ensure the rapid differentiation and identification of important human pathogens."

Last month, Oxoid launched a new system assay for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus.
