Applied Biosystems receives award for StepOne system

30th August 2007

Applied Biosystems announced yesterday that its StepOne real-time PCR system has received an industrial design award from Instrument Buisness Outlook (IBO).

The IBO design awards identify products that enhance the experience of the end-user and are also aesthetically pleasing. The Step One system was presented with a bronze award in the category of analytical instrument industrial design.

A new system in the StepOne range of products was also announced yesterday. The StepOnePlus real-time PCR system features a number of enhancements including double the number of wells compared to the standard system and the ability to use Tamra dyes in addition to those already available.

An upgrade to the StepOnePlus system will be made available to StepOne customers later in the year.

Vice-president for Applied Biosystems John Gerace commented: "Understanding that this may be a customer’s first introduction to real-time PCR, we wanted to make the technology as accessible and approachable as possible."

The company recently announced the launch of a global genotyping service provider programme.
