| Philips Medical Systems to acquire Ximis | Posted on 17/08/2007 in Medical Company Restructures Royal Philips Electronics, the parent of Philips Medical Systems, has announced that it is to acquire radiology information systems (RIS) provider Ximis.
No financial details of the deal - which is expected to close in the third quarter of the year - have been disclosed, while the company reports that Ximis is to be integrated into the healthcare informatics unit of Philips Medical Systems.
The lead product from Ximis is Xiris, its extended internet RIS, a market-leading web-based radiology information system used in a range of hospital sizes worldwide.
Xiris manages patients registration and scheduling, staff and resource management, exam tracking and report generation. These features aim to facilitate a reduction in errors and enhance work management in radiology.
Oran Muduroglu, chief executive officer of the healthcare informatics business group at Philips Medical Systems, said: "Ximis is a company with very talented people and unique technology that will strengthen our position in Healthcare Informatics and will enable us to provide an integrated RIS-PACS [picture archiving and communications system] solution."
He added that the firm is dedicated to supporting the existing customer base of Ximis and collaborate with the firm to take advantage of an integrated solution based on the combination of Xiris with Philips' iSite PACS solution.
In June 2006, Philips Medical Systems announced the launch of a number of optional enhancements to its iSite PACS at the Society for Imaging and Informatics conference, including the RadConnect, RadReview and RadMetrix tools from Primordial.Other news stories from 17/08/2007
