ProStrakan submits MAA for Sancuso

16th July 2007

ProStrakan has announced that it has filed a marketing authorisation application (MAA) for Sancuso, a transdermal granisetron patch intended to combat nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy treatments.

The pan-European MAA follows the filing of a new drug application in the US in June, the company reports.

The patch is intended to address the acute nausea and vomiting experienced by many people undergoing chemotherapy, either immediately after treatment or for up to five days following, through the delivery of granisetron, a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist.

ProStrakan states that the patch delivers granisetron steadily into the bloodstream, avoiding the need for injection or pills.

The European and American applications both follow positive results of the phase III programme for Sancuso in patients undergoing chemotherapy in December.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Dr Wilson Totten, ProStrakan’s chief executive, said: “The filing of the MAA for Sancuso is a further achievement in our programme to launch three key products over the next twelve months.

We continue to make excellent progress to successfully commercialise our existing product portfolio and are well positioned to take advantage of further growth opportunities.”

Earlier this month, ProStrakan released half-year figures for trading ending June 30th, stating that it had achieved strong revenue growth totalling an increase of 28 per cent, alongside strong growth in pan-European products.
