Abbott Diagnostics has announced the signing of a group purchasing agreement with Novation for a range of its diagnostic equipment, with Abbott also providing the company with laboratory automation assistance.
Under the terms of the three-year deal, Abbott will supply the firm with products from its immunochemistry portfolio, including its analysers, reagents and accessories, in addition to its Architect ci8200 and ci16200.
Laboratory automation assistance from Abbott could potentially help hospitals maximise the use of their resources while delivering results of a high-quality.
Novation is the health care contracting services firm for the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and VHA healthcare alliances. The company purchases supplies valued at in excess of $30 billion (15 billion pounds) every year for VHA and UHC members.
Larry Pitts, divisional vice-president of Abbott Diagnostics, said: "Abbott has a strong presence in immunoassay testing.
"Our Architect platforms promote integrated platforms to the hospital market and bring advantages to the customer."
He added that the firm had a long-term partnership with Novation and anticipated further collaboration in the future.
Last month, the Scientist magazine reported that Abbott was ranked among the top employers in its industry, the company being recognised with this accolade for the fifth consecutive year.
