| Takeda announces expansion of collaboration agreement | Posted on 28/02/2007 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Takeda Pharmaceutical has announced an expansion of its collaboration agreement with Xoma for the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies. Under the revised agreement, the number of potential programmes for therapeutic antibodies being investigated by the firms has been increased.
Following this extension to the agreement first signed in November 2006, it is estimated by Xoma that upfront research and development funding and milestone and other payments may surpass $230 million (117.6 million pounds), not including any royalties on sales.
John L Castello, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Xoma, commented that the firm was pleased to extend its partnership agreement with Takeda to include additional programmes in the field of oncology, reporting that this move followed the expiration of exclusivity obligations.
"Xoma is well positioned to capitalise on the growing demand for monoclonal antibody solutions and this expanded agreement validates our strengths in translating targets into therapeutic product candidates and advancing their development thereafter."
Takeda states that this extension to its collaboration agreement will enable the firm to speed up its antibody drug discovery and development work in oncology.
Last December, Takeda announced the appointment of Giacomo Di Nepi as the chief executive officer of Takeda Pharmaceuticals Europe, a recently-established wholly-owned subsidiary of the company for its European activities.Other news stories from 28/02/2007
