Eli Lilly introduces HumaPen Memoir

23 February 2007 00:00 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News

Eli Lilly has announced the launch of a Humalog (insulin lispro injection) delivery device to simplify the management of diabetes. The HumaPen Memoir includes a digital display that exhibitis information regarding the last 16 doses administered by the patient, including priming doses.

The product aims to assist patients that require a number of daily shots of insulin at mealtimes, in order to simplify management of the condition and better develop a treatment plan based on the frequency of mealtime doses.

Additionally, the company has launched the HumaPen Luxura that delivers Humalog in half-unit measurements for patients who do not require larger doses of the drug.

Linda Siminerio, senior vice-president of the International Diabetes Federation, said: "I see real advantages in a new tool such as Memoir that remembers recent insulin doses, including the priming doses.

"The daily routine of balancing meals and blood sugar readings with multiple insulin injections can be cumbersome and overwhelming for patients."

She added that products that simplify disease management and assist in self-management from patients should be regarded as beneficial.

In September 2006, Lilly and Amilyn Pharmaceuticals announced the results of a study showing that exenatide improved the level of blood sugar as effectively as biphasic insulin aspart 30/70.
