Medtronic updates Synergy Experience Stealthstation

Medtronic has announced changes to its product for the treatment of spinal conditions.
The Synergy Experience Stealthstation System, which allows surgeons and operating staff to shorten the set-up time for spinal operations with software that allows them to store procedure preferences, will combine Medtronic's Navigational Procedural Solutions with its Minimal Access Spinal Technologies.
According to Medtronic, this combination will allow surgeons to better treat spinal conditions, as less invasive procedures will be necessary, allowing smaller incisions and less exposure to radiation.
In addition to facilitating set-up, the system monitor provides glare-free clarity for surgical procedures, with a wireless surgeon mouse that functions on a variety of different surfaces.
Commenting on the technology, Choll Kim, an orthopedic surgeon at the University of California, said: "Image guidance allows visualisation of the spine in multiple planes, simultaneously, like having multiple c-arms activated continuously throughout the procedure."
"This provides me with a better 3-D view of the spine and has allowed me to perform complex minimally invasive surgeries in a safe and reproducible fashion, without the burden of wearing uncomfortable lead equipment and the intrusion of the c-arm into the surgical field."
Meanwhile, the group is set to release its third-quarter financial results on February 20th.
