Posted on 07/02/2007 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Wyeth Pharmaceuticals has announced that it has signed a research collaboration agreement with MediVas, a biomaterials firm focused on enhancing the delivery of biologics.
This agreement is related to the discovery, development, manufacturing and commercialisation of innovative pharmaceuticals to extend the duration of action of recombinant factor pharmaceuticals for the treatment of haemophilia.
Under the terms of the agreement, Wyeth will pay MediVas milestone payments in line with the attainment of development and regulatory landmarks, in addition to royalties based on the sales of products.
MediVas will use its polymer-based drug-delivery system for the development of delivery methods for the improvement of patient convenience, with Wyeth researching, developing, manufacturing and commercialising pharmaceuticals following from this partnership.
Cavan Redmond, executive vice president and general manager of BioPharma at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, said: "The novel approach of polymer-based delivery systems could offer promise for other therapeutic applications."
He added that the partnership agreement was in accordance with the company's position in the biopharmaceuticals market and its past record of innovation in haemophilia research.
Last week, Wyeth announced that the case of Brockert v Wyeth, due to begin this week, had been dismissed by the Harris County District Court in Houston, Texas.
The case centred on an allegation by the plaintiff that her use of Prempro resulted in her consequent development of breast cancer.Other news stories from 07/02/2007
