Botox addiction 'not possible', says clinic

Posted on 18/01/2007 in Industry related health news

Concerns have been raised about the possibility of patients becoming addicted to Botox, but a private clinic insists that it would be impossible for such a situation to arise.

When quizzed on the possibility of becoming addicted to Botox, Andy Cooper, national sales manager for cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures at the Hospital Group, claimed that he has never come across such a problem.

"Practitioners like ours, who are worth their weight in gold, wouldn't administer inessential Botox," he insisted.

"I should imagine if that was happening it would be in backstreet surgeries, not registered practitioners."

The manager explained that each patient has a detailed medical file containing before-and-after photos, the date of their last Botox injection, where it was performed and how much they received.

"It would be impossible for someone to become addicted to it and be allowed to be addicted to it," he claimed.

According to Mr Cooper, there has been a massive growth in the number of people requesting information on cosmetic surgery procedures and the public now recognises that it can be beneficial for anyone, not just celebrities and certainly not only women.

"It used to be just for celebrities, then cosmetic surgery was just for women - all boob jobs this and boob jobs that - and now it's for everybody," he said.

"As long as you are over the age of 18, if you are not happy with something then you can change it."
