Bayer Diagnostics announces worldwide assay launch

30th August 2006

Bayer Diagnostics has announced the worldwide launch of its ADVIA Centaur XP immunoassay system.

The new system allows hospitals and laboratories to perform up to 240 tests per hour, with a portfolio of 65 disease states and the facility to test over 226 individual allergens and mixes.

Bayer’s ADVIA Centaur XP system is designed to provide a “comprehensive menu” of disease state assay groups like fertility, infectious diseases, oncology and cardiovascular.

The new system represents the latest evolutionary step above Bayer’s existing ADVIA Centaur immunoassay.

Tony Bihl, president of Bayer Diagnostics, stated: “Our aim is to better serve our customers by offering more analytical platforms, more assays and improved connectivity and integration.”

“The addition of ADVIA Centaur XP system to Bayer’s portfolio provides additional ease-of-use, automation, and expanded capabilities for significant impact on productivity in a laboratory, while improving patient care,” he added.

Bayer Diagnostics, part of the Bayer Group, is to be divested to Siemens and was reported as a “discontinued operation” in Bayer’s most recent financial results. Siemens will pay 4.2 billion euros for the acquisition of Bayer Diagnostics.
