Astellas Pharma Europe announces "essential" technology supplier

23 May 2006 00:00 in Pharmaceutical Company Restructures

Astellas Pharma Europe, based in Staines, Middlesex, has announced Parexel International as the supplier for its new clinical trial management system (CTMS).

Parexel says Astellas picked its technology subsidiary, Perceptive Informatics, after review ten competing bids to replace Astellas' current trial management systems with a more efficient operation. Perceptive Informatics describes its CTMS system, called Impact, as the "market-leading" product, with some 25,000 users worldwide.

Astellas' senior vice-president of research and development in Europe said: "Astellas Pharma Europe Limited has strategically chosen Perceptive's industry leading Impact software in order to provide a single and accurate source of clinical trial information and to provide a far higher level."

"Astellas Pharma Europe Limited's implementation of Impact is essential and will involve several key departments throughout our company, ranging from research and development, clinical research and pharmacovigilance to data operations and regulatory affairs," he added.

Perceptive says its Impact system includes trial management and planning, clinical cost and supplies tracking, as well as activities monitoring and support for various technological systems.

Japanese pharmaceutical manufacturer Astellas employs over 250 staff at its European headquarters in Staines where it specialises in products for dermatology, urology and transplantation.

Last month the company announced its intention to withdraw its central nervous system research facility at the University of Edinburgh as it said it wished to consolidate its research and development operations in this field in Japan. The company also has research and design sites in Leiderdorp in the Netherlands and Munich, in Germany.
