Boston Scientific gets approval for Super Sheath

5 April 2006 00:00 in Medical Company Product News

Boston Scientific has announced that it has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its Super Sheath Introducer Sheath.

The equipment is a tube that is used during interventional procedures to help with catheter placement, helping professionals with the process.

"The introduction of Super Sheath Introducer Sheath ? along with the recent launch of our ZIPwire Guide Wire ? further demonstrates our commitment to providing physicians with superior tools for peripheral and coronary interventions," said Hank Kucheman, president of Boston Scientific's Interventional Cardiology business.

"These technologies are designed to facilitate access to vascular lesions and help to improve the efficiency and outcomes of minimally invasive procedures."

The company said that the technology features a number of design "enhancements", including a rotating suture wing, translucent hub, coated valve and smooth inner surface.

According to Boston Scientific, the Super Sheath Introducer Sheath can be used in procedures such as working on blocked blood vessels in the heart.
