Zoll launches audio visual defibrillator
Zoll Medical Corporation has announced that it is to be the first company to begin shipment of a professional automated external defibrillator (AED) with real CPR Help technology.
The technology, which is fully compliant with the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, allows support to be provided for those carrying out CPR in an attempt to save someone’s life.
“Zoll recognised that real-time CPR support was an important element of AED use, since about half of all victims who suddenly collapse initially require defibrillation,” said Richard A Packer, president and chief executive officer of Zoll.
“For the other victims, who may have non-shockable heart rhythms, the critical action for survival is effective CPR.”
The AED Pro, as the equipment is known, uses the CPR-D*padz electrode, which measures the rate and depth of chest compressions using a sensor. The CPR Help offers instant feedback regarding these measurements, converting them to audible instructions such as “push harder”.
Visual prompts are also generated from the measurements sensed and the actions being taken.
