Principal purpose of the role:
>Provide high-level scientific, strategic and marketing insight combined with editorial leadership of account teams. >Take responsibility for day-to-day client service and delivery, managing the full range of high-quality medical communication services. >Effectively line manage and coach Writers or Editors (as required) and to ensure excellence in project delivery and client relationship.
Core tasks/responsibilities: INTERNAL LEADERSHIP " As a member of the Medical Management Team, contribute to the management of the department as a whole and provide leadership on designated areas of responsibility. " Lead, coach and motivate account/project teams; share best practice; provide support and guidance to team members on client and project issues. " Through effective line management ensure training, development and appraisal of all line reports, including Trainee Writers/Editors, Writers/Editors, Senior Writers/Editors, Principal Writers/Editors as required. " Actively participate in the Caudex training and development programme, coaching individual team members and leading workshops, as required. " Provide a professional perspective on quality procedures and editorial processes within accounts, leading by example. " Establish and maintain a consistent editorial standard and help other staff to ensure a high quality output. " Develop close working relationships with team members, thereby enabling provision of regular feedback on performance. " Contribute to short- and long-term account resource planning. " Lead account team/project status meetings.
SCIENTIFIC EXPERTISE " Act as the main source of account/product/therapy area expertise within Caudex and for the client. " Act as the Technical Lead on designated client accounts. " Effectively brief all members of the project team on time allocations, target audiences, client's key messages and schedules, and proactively provide ideas/creative input. " Review output for structure, readability, scientific accuracy and creativity, and against the client's rationale and brief for the work, specific project objectives, key messages, target audiences and consistency with the marketing communication aims.
CLIENT SERVICE " Build Relationships with clients, key opinion leaders and other based on trust, mutual respect and maintenance of high standards. " Liaise effectively with the client and opinion leaders, acting as the primary point of contact according to the requirements of the account. " Provide proactive ideas and creative input to assist and challenge clients' own thinking/planning. " Effectively troubleshoot/handle objections from the client/opinion leaders to ensure continuing good relationships. " Single-handedly manage client and opinion leader meetings of all types both in the UK and overseas, as required. " Ensure any changes in the internal account/project teams are managed and communicated appropriately with the client. " Proactively drive projects through to completion.
FINANCIAL " Contribute to the development of account plan forecasts in liaison with the Commercial Team. " Actively contribute to and review project specifications/cost estimates/reconciliations. " Ensure that any request for work outside the original specification is discussed with the client and communicated to the Commercial Team, as well as the wider project team. " Be proactive in tracking projects and chasing comments from the client, authors or speakers before the final deadline.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT " Proactively identify and develop opportunities for organic growth and new business and new ideas for Caudex products. " Contribute to, and actively participate in, new proposal development and pitches. " Advise on which members of the medical team might be suitable for involvement in specific proposal and pitch activities.
UNIVERSAL RESPONSIBILITIES " Adhere to Caudex procedures and policies. " Work within agreed deadlines and budgets. " Follow Caudex style guidelines and processes. " Work collaboratively with Caudex colleagues in the UK and US to ensure that all account and departmental objectives are met. " Work collaboratively with members of the wider McCann organisation as required. " Anything else reasonably required. |
| Person Profile |
Ideally, we are particularly looking for individuals familiar with at least one (not all!) of the following therapy areas: neurology, psychiatry, endocrinology, respiratory, oncology, immunology, vaccines or rheumatology.
Applicants must have a life science degree (preferably a PhD) and demonstrated ability in a publications agency environment. CMPP would be an advantage, but not essential.
