For the Editor position, ideally, candidates will have a science degree and a minimum of 2 year’s scientific editing experience, with some experience in med comms.
For Senior Editor ideally 3 years+
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES " Excellent command of English and close attention to detail. " Excellent copy-editing and proofing skills. " Familiarity with BSI copy preparation and proof-reading marks. " Eye for design and layout. " Sufficient knowledge of therapy area to review copy and deal with client/author comments. " Demonstrated ability in briefing typesetters and designers. " Ability to handle own projects and work as part of an editorial/client team. " Excellent project/time management and organisational skills. " Ability to work on multiple projects and deliver to tight deadlines. " Excellent interpersonal/communication skills. " IT skills (including Word, Powerpoint, Internet, email). " Knowledge of print/production procedures. " Budgetary awareness.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE " A science degree. " Proven track record in an editorial role within a communications agency or scientific publishing, with evidence of formal inhouse editorial training.

Medical Editor/Senior Editor - Medical Communications - Berks
This Leading Medical Communications agency has a huge range of outputs with target audiences ranging from specialists through to nurses, patients and consumers. In addition to publication planning, meetings, exhibitions etc, a big component of the work is patient and investigator recruitment for clinical trials - which in all provides for a far more varied experience than most other Med Comms agencies.
The team has nearly doubled in the last year or so to approximately 100, this company can offer great career progression, training and support.
RESPONSIBILITIES " Edit and proof-read copy for a range of educational materials (e.g. slide presentations, printed materials, multimedia projects) for various audiences. " Edit manuscripts to agreed style/specification, checking content, accuracy, consistency and grammar. " Liaise with designers to develop appropriate design options for all materials. " Mark up approved manuscripts/draw up page plans for typesetting. " Check all proof stages from initial layouts to colour printers' proofs, liaising with typesetters at each stage. " Liaise with clients, opinion leaders/speakers and internal staff to ensure full input and approval of copy. " Interpret and incorporate client/author corrections. " Manage the progression of projects from signed-off copy to print stage, and keep team informed of project status. " Assist in the development and implementation of production schedules. " Liaise with freelance editors/manage their workloads to ensure deadlines are met. " Deliver projects in accordance with budgeted hours and agreed deadlines. " Monitor published items to ensure they are of the highest quality for agreed specification and budget. " Obtain copyright clearance for reproduction of published figures/illustrations as needed. " Set up editorial/production job bags as appropriate, ensuring all relevant information is included throughout project lifecycle. " Attend project team/production meetings as appropriate. " Write simple copy where appropriate (e.g. biographies, captions, cutting text to fit).
Additional responsibilities of Senior Editor Assist Editorial Director with: " Prioritisation and division of workloads within Editorial Department. " Maintaining overall quality control (QC) in Editorial Department (helping to ensure that all print items are QC checked). " Training and supervision of new Editors and Editorial Assistants (including one-to-one mentoring). " Commissioning freelance editors as appropriate and managing their workloads to ensure deadlines are met. " Educating writers on handover procedures (manuscript procedures, what to flag up in advance etc.) " Educating new members of Client Services Unit (CSU), Writing and other departments on editorial procedures, how to brief jobs in, and on editorial and studio timelines. " Estimation of editorial hours for jobs/monitoring progress. " Monitoring procedures and processes to ensure the department operates at maximum efficiency.
To be considered for this role you must have at least 2 years Editing expecience either in a healthcare communications agency or a publishing house. A Life science degree is essential (Minimum requirement)
