* Educated to at least degree level in medicine, pharmacy, or life sciences
* 5+ years experience as a writer in a Med Comms agency
* Proven experience in line-management of medical writers
* Extensive experience in medical writing, reviewing and resource planning
* Excellent coaching/training/mentoring skills
* In-depth knowledge of medical communications business objectives, products and operating procedures
* Extensive experience with a wide range of medical communications materials, including publication planning, symposium and exhibition materials, pitch presentations and promotional materials (for a range of audiences)
* Excellent project/time management and organisational skills, with a proven track record of managing large medical communications programmes
* Ability to monitor team outputs, ensuring all written materials are of high scientific quality and meet client strategic marketing objectives
* Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, with demonstrated ability in coordinating and motivating staff to meet deadlines
* Commercial focus and financial awareness/ability to provide accurate hours estimates
* Excellent attention to detail
* Creativity and ability to think strategically
* Flexible attitude - managing ever-changing priorities
* Familiarity with code of practice guidelines
* Excellent presentation skills
* Computer literate: Packages used include Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel). Familiarity with databases/search tools - e.g. Reference Manager, DataVision

Job Comments Title : Editorial Team Leader / Medical Projects Manager

Location : Berkshire

Reports to : Medical Director

Role :
* Take a leading role in the strategic scientific development and implementation of client communication programmes, with a focus on marketing strategy, key messages and overall quality of all educational and promotional materials, in conjunction with relevant team members
* Assist with line management and development of the Medical Writing Department
* Grow existing client accounts and contribute to new business development

Key Duties :

* Design, develop, implement and manage strategic communication plans in close collaboration with the client/agency project team
* Act as primary Medical contact for the account team on large programmes or a number of medium-sized accounts
* Ensure a professional high-quality standard of work is maintained by members of the Medical Writing Department at all times through reviewing/quality control checking of copy (to ensure on-target, on-strategy and accurate), and ensuring quality control processes are maintained (and revised when necessary)
* Line management of assigned team members within the Medical Writing Department. Specific line management responsibilities to be performed in conjunction with Medical Projects Director/Medical Director, e.g. performance grading, disciplinary, setting goals and objectives
* Coach and mentor members of the Medical Writing Department, assessing training needs.
* Work closely with the Medical Director to plan resource across the Medical Writing Department to match account needs, ensuring equitable distribution of workloads
* Assess the scope of assigned projects and identify the range and depth of written support necessary for achieving objectives
* Utilize and manage freelance assistance, including commissioning and briefing freelancers
* Provide therapy area advice/consultancy in areas of expertise, both internally and externally.
* Act as scientific lead on designated projects, providing internal sign-off
* Apply high-level client liaison skills, actively contributing to client/opinion leader meetings and facilitating these meetings as required. Effectively troubleshoot/handle questions from the client/opinion leaders to ensure continuing good relationships
* Demonstrate commercial and strategic awareness and apply this proactively, thereby maximizing business opportunities with both existing and new clients. Identify new opportunities to maximise existing accounts. Provide scientific expertise for new business proposals. Assist Business Development group with new pitches/presentations. Take accurate and extensive briefs for new business proposals and work with the Medical Director to assign appropriate writing resource to meet client needs
* Ensure implementation of projects within the Medical Writing Department runs according to budgeted hours and deadlines agreed
* Provide leadership and guidance for members of the Medical Writing Department by leading by example, engendering and team spirit at all times, and complying with and endorsing company procedures.
