Amanda, firstly tell me a bit about Boehringer Ingelheim. It's an incredibly well established company; we recently celebrated our 125th anniversary. What's most impressive about that is the way that the company culture has consistently evolved from a single point; we are still true to the business principals set down by Albert Boehringer the day he started the business. That evolution has created a unique culture that is second to none and has made Boehringer Ingelheim one of the 20 largest and fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in the world, with a pipeline that demonstrates true "launch power". How does your company value the people working for it? Again, Albert Boehringer is the inspiration for the importance we assign to our employees. Owning the company as a family business, Albert believed that employees were the company's greatest asset. This means that continued investment is the life blood of the future and innovation is the driver to improving patient's lives. In short - People, Products, Patients. What support can employees of Boehringer Ingelheim expect? For the last three years we have been voted employer of choice by readers of Pharma Field, an accolade that we are immensely proud of. The reason is the support we give our people. Our vision is to continue to be a Centre of Excellence and a Great Place to Work. For employees this means that we focus on personal development, clear direction and progression opportunities, while at the same time encouraging them to be individuals ready to take on challenges and to be challenging. Why do you see this as so important? Put simply, this philosophy ensures people stay with us. With long service we maintain continuity, improve communication, grow trust and deliver exceptional results building a company to be proud of now and in the future. To get the best we offer the best. | "For the last three years we have been voted employer of choice by readers of Pharma Field" | | "To get the best we offer the best" |
What projects does Boehringer Ingelheim have planned for the future? One of the reasons we need the Best in terms of People is so that we can take on the challenge of four new launches over the next three years. We already have a considerable franchise in respiratory and cardiovascular medicine and we are ensuring that we are ready to expand our portfolio. This is made possible by being a private company that can make its own decisions on research and development investment. Why is research and development so important to the company? Our commitment to, and our success in R&D means we can 'Improve Patients' Lives', which is at the core of Boehringer Ingelheim's mission. We have an application success rate of 100% with submissions to NICE, a track record which we underpin by ensuring that patients have access to our medicines and value our patient adherence programmes and medical information service. Thank you very much for your time Amanda and best of luck to Boehringer for the future. *Interview completed in November 2010 |
